AutoCAD is available in many languages, including Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Czech, Dutch, English (United States, United Kingdom), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Russian, Spanish (Spain, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Panama), and Traditional Chinese.
AutoCAD can be used for free for several months, but it will expire after seven days or when it is used to open a paid drawing, whichever comes first. For AutoCAD 2010, the license period is five years.
AutoCAD is available on disk for both Windows NT and Windows XP (v. XP only v. 2003), Linux, and macOS 10.5 or later. For Windows NT, there is an option to load the EXE file into memory, although AutoCAD will always start in the background, which slows down performance.

Microsoft sells AutoCAD 2010, AutoCAD LT 2008, AutoCAD 2009 and AutoCAD 2009 SP1 through Microsoft's online software as a service (SaaS) hosting service (formerly Autodesk's AutoCAD Online).

User interface
Windows
AutoCAD provides options for handling 2D and 3D drawing and drafting tasks. The main window is divided into three panes: the Drawing pane, the Properties pane, and the Tools & Options pane. The Drawing pane can be maximized or minimized, and can be resized at will. The Tools & Options pane contains many settings that modify how AutoCAD behaves.
The Drawing pane contains the only area in which drafting and editable text can be done. The Drawing pane allows the user to select objects from among those defined in the drawing database. Each object type is displayed in a dialog box that appears once the user selects it from the Drawing pane. The Properties pane displays various properties of objects in the drawing, including color, linetype, lineweight, 3D dimensions, and more. The Options window is a common place for selecting settings such as material properties and other properties which are saved for the entire drawing.
